Program Description:

It can be said that the most important skill in interpreting is to know what you are talking about.  Interpreting, rendering a term from one language to another, by itself is simple.  It’s easy to learn the terms and how to say them in another language, however, understanding what they mean is important.  Dermatology is one of the most intriguing specialties with variations of a single term as well as terms that mean the simplest things.  This presentation will help clarify some of the most common terms and their definitions to help the interpreter when in a dermatology session.  Understanding some of the disease processes will help prepare the medical interpreter for the encounter.

Bio:  Kamilah Torres-Carmona is a Certified Medical Interpreter for English <> Spanish and Registered Medical Assistant.  She has been in the medical field for over 20 years where her work has always presented an opportunity to interpret.  She spent 12 years in the field of Dermatology, beginning at Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Dermatology, Clinical Pharmacology Unit.

This presentation was originally presented at a TAPIT / TAMIT conference in Nashville, TN on 9/10/16.  It was approved by both CCHI and IMIA, CCHI for one instructional hour and IMIA for 0.1 CEUs.
